About tour

Prepare to step inside the actual home of the Danish monarchy. Amalienborg is not just a museum; it is the active winter residence of the Royal Family. On this tour, we will take you beyond the Rococo façade to discover how the kings and queens of Denmark have lived for over 250 years.

Itinerary

Our adventure begins in the grand Octagonal Square, the heart of Amalienborg. As we admire the symmetry of the four twin palaces, your expert guide will share how a tragic fire forced the Royal Family to convert this complex of noble homes into their permanent residence.

With your entry ticket already included, we will proceed directly into the Amalienborg Museum (housed in Christian VIII's Palace). Once inside, we embark on a journey through time, exploring the preserved rooms, from the private offices of former monarchs to the grand reception spaces. You will see firsthand what royal life was like, with intact furniture, personal items, and historical decorations.

We will continue through the most significant rooms, such as the majestic Pompeii Room and the elegant Queen Louise's Salon. We will conclude the visit in the spectacular Fabergé Chamber, where wealth and history meet in the form of exquisite Russian imperial goldsmithing, linked by family ties to the Danish crown.

After approximately an hour and a half, the tour concludes inside the palace, leaving you with a personal understanding of this enduring European dynasty.

Martin Thomsen was very knowledgeable and witty and made the tour a lot of fun. He could answer most if not all our questions regarding Copenhagen, irregardless if they were related to the tour.
