Christmas Market at Højbro Plads

Where: Højbro Plads
When: November 5th to December 21st
Hours: Monday – Thursday 11-20, Friday 11-21, Saturday 11-22 and Sunday 12-19
Here you will find one of the largest Christmas markets in Copenhagen . Here, the stalls are surrounded by Christiansborg Castle and with the statue of Absalon on horseback in the centre. At the Christmas market on Højbro Plads you can find Christmas delicacies from all over Europe. Don't miss the chance to try the local delicacies and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
Christmas Market at Thorvaldsens Plads

Hours: Monday – Wednesday 11-19, Thursday 11-20, Friday and Saturday 11-21 and Sunday 12-19
Since 2024, the Kongens Nytorv Christmas Market has moved to Thorvaldsens Plads. One of Copenhagen's oldest and most popular markets , this is the perfect place to get into the Christmas spirit as it is located close to Christiansborg Palace and the National Museum of Denmark.
Experience the magic of Christmas at this illuminated market, surrounded by historic buildings. Enjoy delicious baked apples, mulled wine and the famous gløgg. An unforgettable experience!
3. Christmas Market in Nyhavn (To be confirmed)

The Nyhavn Christmas Market invites you to immerse yourself in the magic of Christmas with its illuminated wooden houses, the aroma of mulled wine and the beauty of the canal as a backdrop.
Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market

Where: Nytorv
When: November 15 to December 21
Hours: Sunday-Thursday 11-19, Friday and Saturday 11-20
In the heart of Nytorv, next to Strøget, you’ll find the charming HC Andersen Christmas Market. Inspired by the famous Danish writer , this market features themed stalls based on his popular fairy tales. If you’re lucky, you might even meet and have your photo taken with Hans Christian Andersen himself as you explore the stalls.
Tivoli Christmas Market
Where: Tivoli
When: November 15 to January 5, 2025 (Closed on 12/24)
Hours: Monday to Sunday 11 - 23
A visit to Copenhagen at Christmas would not be complete without a stroll through the ancient Tivoli Gardens, decorated especially for the occasion. Every December, the park is transformed into a fairy-tale world, illuminated by thousands of Christmas lights.
This time we will be able to enjoy the park until January 5th!
It is important to note that in order to access the Christmas market in Tivoli, you must purchase an entrance ticket. Adults: 170 DKK (23 EUR), children from 3 to 7 years old: 85 DKK (12 EUR) and children under 3 years old enter for free.
6. Den Grå Hal Christmas Market in Christiania
Where: Christiania
When: Open only on December 7th to 20th.
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 12 to 20. Last day from 12 to 18.
The Free City of Christiania hosts a Christmas market at “Den Grå Hal”, a tradition that dates back to the 1970s. There are many stalls, many of them unconventional, reminiscent of the exotic bazaars of warmer countries.

Shopping at Christmas markets
For the Danes, Christmas is the most hygge time of the year. That's why Copenhagen's Old Town lights up with decorations and illuminations.
In the markets you can't miss trying:
æbleskiver: fluffy balls served with jam and powdered sugar.
Gløgg : mulled wine, usually served with dried fruits such as almonds or raisins.
Flæskesteg sandwich : It is crispy roast pork with sesame seed bread topped with pickled cucumber and cabbage.
Risengrød (rice pudding): It has 4 main ingredients, rice, milk, water and salt. It is served hot with cinnamon sugar!
